Some SMT Kingdom Tips

September 9, 2010 1 comment

I would like to share one SMT kingdom tip which i recently learned from my friend. Say, you import the 2D seismic SEGY file to SMT kingdom project and you want to import stacking velocity data of same seismic line either to check stacking velocity pick from your processor or to identify or to see velocity anomalies area in your section. For that you need to import two SEGY file under the same name but different data type. Because if you import the same name as previous one (like amplitudes), the stacking velocity will overwrite your earlier 2D seismic amplitude data. But you import stacking velocity as different SEGY file then you cannot see or evaluate amplitude and stacking velocity at the same time.If you need to see both your seismic line and stacking velocity data, you need to follow the below step to avoid overwriting the original amplitudes data and can check your stacking velocity profile. Below is the example of how to import  stacking velocity SEGY file into Line-1 of Golden project ;

The project was already set up and imported the 2D and 3D seismic data, we want to import stacking velocity data of 2D line-1 to check the velocity pick;

First you have to import the SEGY file of stacking velocity data;

After that choose the uppermost option;

Then choose 2D line which you want to import, for this exercise choose line-1

image

then click the import SEGY file and choose stacking velocity data of line-1

image

then create stacking velocity instead of Amplitudes (time), after importing the stacking velocity data, you can choose stacking velocity from drop down menu

Now, your stacking velocity data and amplitudes are under the same seismic line name but different data to compare or anything x-plotting you want to do.

Cheers!

Some initial review on IP 3.6

Some of you may already know, but i would like to show some interesting features on IP 3.6

image

When you open the test well-1 from IP and choose the triple combo plot from file>program default plots>triple combo, you should see like above image. In the left panel, there have several default x-plotting feature from IP. You can see some high resistivity log possible HC character at 7800 ft and 8300 ft. But hard to identified on type of HC (oil or gas) in this plot. For a quick look interpretation, just double click the density-neutron x-plot under fluid folder. IP will automatically create a density-neutron x-plot for you. Please see the below image.

image

The abnormal density & neutron behavior is inside the green circle area. In that area, density value was quite low and neutron porosity value is also low. This zone may be possibly gas bearing. You may want to know which intervals at your well is possible gas bearing sands. Click the arrow with red circle on top of your x-plot.

image

Change the diameter of your circle to 85 and tick highlight point like below and click the area of interest;

image

Go back to your log and you should see something like this;

image

You can see there have some light red color shading in these two intervals. These two intervals probably be gas bearing reservoirs.

Happy Interpreting with IP 3.6

I will post more at a later time!

Stay tune & Have fun!!

Cheers!!

Using windows live writer

Hi all,

This is a test post by using windows live writer. If it is Ok, it will speed up a lot on my blogging process.

WordPress being ban

2010 doesn’t looks like a happy starting for my blog as wordpress.com is being ban by service provider bagancybertech. As i can come to my blog by other means but it will be pretty hard to upload the image file. So, i cannot update my blog weekly during this period ( although i don’t know when it will open up again :) ), instead, I’ll try to update biweekly basis.

Take care & Keep in touch!
